Is this a new species of spider?

Busy time today pruning then mulching. As I put the trimmings into the compost bin a flash of yellow caught my eye. spider-2_5184x3888I’ve never seen a spider this colour before. I called Jack over and told him to keep his eye on it while I rushed indoors for the camera.

It hadn’t moved by the time I got back. Just to give you an idea of the size I put my rather grubby finger next to it.spider-1_3845x3241Now I will have to ask Google if it is a known species.

Always something interesting in the garden.

  1. I haven’t seen one like it.. Though in England I doubt we have that one, its so very colourful and tropical looking. Sounds as if you and Jack between you are finding out what it is.. 🙂
I hope you have had a wonderful start to the New Year both of you Pauline.. Sending Hugs down under, from a wet cold day here in England.. 🙂 ❤

  2. I first saw these spiders in Cooktown a few years ago and thought oh how tropical. To my surprise one took up residence in our Melbourne garden earlier this year and stayed for a few months. Sadly he hasn’t been seen since winter so if he is a northern fellow then the cold of August would have done him in. They certainly are eye catching.
