Peaceful Pelican Lake.

Gold Coast is built on a swamp and when it was developed the swamp was drained and a network of canals and lakes were  formed. The waterways wind and meander over 400 kilometres around the suburbs and at the end of my street there is one of the lakes.

Just a 5 minute walk away, but it is not often I go there.

But a couple of evenings ago we decided to walk down to the lake and watch the sunset.beach sunset pelican lake 127_4818x3107A sense of wonder and calmness can be felt watching the beauty of nature.

A lake is the landscape’s most beautiful and expressive feature.
It is Earth’s eye; looking into which the beholder measures
the depth of his own nature.

There is something infinitely healing in the repeated refrains
of nature – the assurance that dawn comes after night, and
spring after the winter.

The birds have all gone to roost and as the sun dips below the horizon you can see the bats coming out for their nightly forage

Keep looking up! I learn from the past, dream about the future and look up.

There’s nothing like a beautiful sunset to end a healthy day. Rachel Boston

I wonder why I don’t come here more often it is so peaceful.

I hope you all enjoy a peaceful weekend.

    • That time of the afternoon I am usually in the garden then I get involve with other things then time just passes. I think often people do not appreciate what is right on their doorstep. Thank you for the comment

  1. Beautiful quotes and lovely shots. So calm and silent…I would have loved to sit there and just look at the sunset. It is so true – what you say about our doorstep…I am sure we all recognize that.
The first shot is something for the wall.

  2. Your world is full of surprises. What a lovely place to have at the end of your street. I’d be there daily to watch the sun set. It looks from your photos, as if there are houses around the lake. Is it possible to walk round, or is the land by the lakeside part of peoples’ gardens?

    • No wallaby Tony but those pesky bats are a nuisance. I never thought if all the rest of Australia stretching out west, quite a mind boggling thought when you think that most Australians live on the east coast

      • From here, I always thought that the ocean seemed boring. I could not imagine all that water between here and Hawaii or Japan or whatever is out there. I suppose Australia is out there if one goes far enough. However, while in Oklahoma, it was impossible to imagine being so far from the ocean. I remember looking to the north, and imagining Kansas off in the distance, and Texas off to the south. There was land in every direction.
