Gold Coast is built on a swamp and when it was developed the swamp was drained and a network of canals and lakes were formed. The waterways wind and meander over 400 kilometres around the suburbs and at the end of my street there is one of the lakes.
Just a 5 minute walk away, but it is not often I go there.
But a couple of evenings ago we decided to walk down to the lake and watch the sunset.A sense of wonder and calmness can be felt watching the beauty of nature.
A lake is the landscape’s most beautiful and expressive feature.
It is Earth’s eye; looking into which the beholder measures
the depth of his own nature.
– Henry David Thoreau
There is something infinitely healing in the repeated refrains
of nature – the assurance that dawn comes after night, and
spring after the winter.
– Rachel Carson
The Sense of WonderThe birds have all gone to roost and as the sun dips below the horizon you can see the bats coming out for their nightly forage
Keep looking up! I learn from the past, dream about the future and look up.
There’s nothing like a beautiful sunset to end a healthy day. Rachel Boston
I wonder why I don’t come here more often it is so peaceful.
I hope you all enjoy a peaceful weekend.
So beautiful, the first one especially.

I wonder why you don’t go there more often too, especially since it’s only 5 mins away from your home 🙂 It’s beautiful.

That time of the afternoon I am usually in the garden then I get involve with other things then time just passes. I think often people do not appreciate what is right on their doorstep. Thank you for the comment

It’s a time thing Jo, often in the garden at that time of the evening. Often don’t appreciate what is on our doorstep

Beautiful quotes and lovely shots. So calm and silent…I would have loved to sit there and just look at the sunset. It is so true – what you say about our doorstep…I am sure we all recognize that.
The first shot is something for the wall.

It’s like our beach, so close but I don’t go there regularly and people travel miles to be on it. But Jack does go down most mornings for a swim

Your world is full of surprises. What a lovely place to have at the end of your street. I’d be there daily to watch the sun set. It looks from your photos, as if there are houses around the lake. Is it possible to walk round, or is the land by the lakeside part of peoples’ gardens?

Houses all round Jude and their gardens come right down to the lake. Not every night is a memorable sunset. Get more during our “so called” winter….

Yes, winter is best here for the sunsets. A shame you can’t walk around the lake, that would be nice to do in the cool of the evening.

Yes it would, but I am usually in the garden at that time. But for the past few days it has been raining so no gardening. But will be full on pruning when the rain clears. Everything goes into overdrive after rain

We have had so much rain here that everything is turning to mud 😦
I need a couple of bright, dry days so I can get out in the garden and clear up all the winter debris, but at the moment it is too wet, too windy and too cold to even contemplate!

Yesterday inland had coldest on record, Toowoomba down to 17c. We were cold and miserable at 22c and rain all day ☹️…usually February is hot and humid and in the mid 30’s

It ‘looks’ peaceful; but what if there is a wallaby nearby? The sunset is fascinating because it is impossible to imagine that to the west there is the whole continent of Australia!

No wallaby Tony but those pesky bats are a nuisance. I never thought if all the rest of Australia stretching out west, quite a mind boggling thought when you think that most Australians live on the east coast

From here, I always thought that the ocean seemed boring. I could not imagine all that water between here and Hawaii or Japan or whatever is out there. I suppose Australia is out there if one goes far enough. However, while in Oklahoma, it was impossible to imagine being so far from the ocean. I remember looking to the north, and imagining Kansas off in the distance, and Texas off to the south. There was land in every direction.
