I took a photograph from the back deck last night of a spectacular sunset, it blazed in rich shades of red, apricot, pink and purple. The trees became silhouettes. Perfect for Jude’s assignment.
“This week’s assignment – Use strong backlighting (i.e. shooting towards the light source, but do not look directly at the sun) to create a contre-jour image where the subject becomes a silhouette, OR shoot the light through flowers or leaves creating a transparent effect.“
I just had to share it.
Then this afternoon I wandered out into the garden camera in hand to take photos for this months “changing seasons” post. As I rounded the corner this is what I saw…
The sun was perfectly positioned to back light this clump of bromeliads and water lilies, creating strong shadows.
So I couldn’t resist doing a second post for this weeks assignment.

I’m using the new “block editor”. A lot of head scratching going on, there are SO many options, I am rather mind boggled. Below is the link to Jude’s post. not sure if I have got this right. So fingers crossed I will click on publish…
Those water lillies look massive! Do you feed them? Just gorgeous.

No special food. Possibly just the poo from the fish that live in there with the lilies…🤔

A lovely ‘bruised’ evening sky. I was out last night trying to capture the sliver of crescent moon as the sun set. Not hugely successful but I may post one image! And the light through those leaves is magical. What it the diameter of your pond? It looks quite small to have fish in. I am keen to create a small pond, just need to find some water plants.

“Bruised” is a lovely description for the sky. The whole sky lit up, quite spectacular.
The big pots jack used are 60 centimetres and he filled the hole in the bottom. It has oxygen weed and the water lilies as well as fish and he never has to do anything with them

Thanks PP. Good to know. It’s the oxygen weed that I need to find.

So glad you’re pleased, Pauline! xx
(🤫 I don’t use that editor, which has been up forever. I continue with the “old” one, which works just fine. 😉)

Thanks Jo I guess/hope it will get easier with time. Jude has sent a link to the WP instructional video so I will go take a look at it

I love that sunset and silhouette. Oh no, I’m dreading the new block editor. I guess I have to start using it next week.

You can still choose to use the old classic editor or the previous block editor. Details in their guide

Thanks for the link Jude, I will certainly check it out

Thanks for that information, Jude. I’ve always stayed with the classic editor just because it was easy and I’m familiar with it. Maybe it’s time for me to move on with the times!

Mmm… well I’ll be clinging on to the old one as long as I can. I like being able to tweak the html if necessary.

Ohh you are clever being able to use html, I noticed there were a number of places in the new editor that gave html options that I immediately shied away from. I looked at the tutorials, I couldn’t really make any sense of them either. I guess it will be trial and much error…

Well I am a software engineer 😊 My degree was in programming although html came later. But my original website was written purely in that language. I couldn’t do it now, but some things stick. 😉

After one disastrous trial with the new block editor I went back to the old classic editor. It is so much easier to use

I have avoided trying the new block editor, Pauline. Maybe I’ll never have to?? I think I tried the first version once, and I hated that one, so I don’t imagine I’ll like this one either. 🙂

I only tried it once, now I am back to the classic editor. Much easier

I haven’t had to switch over, and I think I won’t!

Hopefully they keep the classic editor available. After trying the block editor I’m not keen to move either

When you use it for the first time Cathy leave yourself plenty of time to sort through all the options and work out how operate. I found it very time consuming 🤔

Now you’re really making me worried! Thanks, Pauline!

Wow wow wow! What a sight!
It took me a while to get my head around Block Editor – but it’s finally gotten to where I cannot remember the old editor anymore! The joy of forgetting!

Thank you Ju lyn I think it is a case of finding all the options that I use regularly among all the extra they have put on there. It is encouraging to know it gets easier

I am blessed with a very short memory (I can reread books & rewatch movies with no problem at all!) so maybe it is easier when I am not searching for things I used to use. :0

Oh yes I know exactly what you mean. A few months after reading a book or watching a movie I know I have seen/read it, but have no idea how it ends…🤭

We are the lucky ones, Pauline! We can be perpetually entertained!
And nowadays with a mobile phone & google, I can search for names & titles with no sleepless nights trying to get that book or movie title off the tip of my tongue!

It is wonderful capturing the last light and especially when it is so colourful. One positive out having moisture and particles in the air.

Sunsets are great for creating silhouettes that still have vivid lighting! They’re also tricky because the peak moment can appear and fade so quickly.
