Jude is hosting a new challenge. Each month she will choose a colour for us to search for in our life. This month it is brown.
I enjoy using brown in my art and I have a number of projects done in different mediums I would like to share with you this week for Jude’s challenge.
Animals are one of my favourite subjects and I used coffe to capture this cute cocker spaniel.
Neesha is my daughter in law’s cat. She is an old girl with great attitude. I used colour pencils this time.
For years I have been horse crazy. My school books always had horse sketches in the margins. I drew this horse, in pastel, for my daughter. She is horse mad too and recently acquired 2 horses.
Using sepia toned paper this kangaroo was drawn using a new sort of pen I’ve just bought. The “elegant writer” can be used for pen and wash and finished with a white pencil for highlights.
Architecture in landscapes is another favourite subject. This was drawn from a photo using acrylic in a water colour style.
Finally, my latest painting, just finished this week while we are again in lock down (but only, hopefully, for 3 days) I used gouache, a medium I have totally fallen in love with, I have not used it before.
I’m enjoying this new challenge and it has drawn me back into the blogging community. Take a look at Jude’s rules for this challenge, very simple, and the colour choice will be changing each month.
Lovely work! I admire those who can draw.

I noticed that and reread it a few days ago Tony. That was a very confronting photo of the wallaby you put in there. Amusing comments about Aussie life style you gave us. BTW I would not live anywhere else at the moment…

Isn’t Australia one of the best places in the World to be with the current ‘situation’? Even without the current ‘situation’, everyone should want to be where they are, . . . or relocate to where they want to be. As ‘bad’ as it is to be here now, I would not prefer to be live anywhere else either.

Absolutely fabulous, Pauline! That spaniel can just about talk, and I wouldn’t want to get on the wrong side of that cat, but your horse is sublime! 🙂 🙂

Thanks Jo, that’s a lovely comment. Yes you have to be wary about stroking that cat if she is feeling grumpy, she will have a go at you…😾

You are such a talented lady, I love all your browns. The spaniel is so cute and the cat so perfectly portrayed, but I also love the kangaroo and your last picture – you are always finding inspiration. I am amused by your 3 day lockdown when you only have one case. It’s totally out of control over here, but people do not follow the guidance / rules as well as you folk do.

Thanks Jude for running this challenge, it has sparked my interest back into blogging. Already thinking of what to post next Sunday.
I’m really proud of how Aussies responded to our leaders request. No more cases over the past 2 days so lockdown is being lifted tonight, but still have to wear masks. I shudder at the numbers coming from UK, and USA is a reality show gone horrible wrong. Keep safe jude and hope the vaccine slows the numbers down

Your work is lovely – all that variation using brown. Your new pen looks useful. I’m experimenting with gouache and trying to improve with acrylic at the same time, there aren’t enough hours in the day!

I just love how forgiving gouache is and so much easier than ware colour. I think it will be a good medium for “plein aire” painting. Haven’t tried that yet

Thank you Janet, creativity has been a very important part of life during the past year. I hope the coming year and the vaccine helps everyone to get back to some semblance of normality

You are a gifted artist and like myself, you like to try many different mediums. I think that makes the endeavor even more interesting than it might be. Do take good care.

Thanks Renee, I have a very good art teacher that leads the Wednesday group I go to and she encourages to get out of our comfort zone and try new, different mediums.

Thanks Tracy. How are your mosaics coming along?
LikeLiked by 1 person
Not coming along, Pauline. Not that I don’t have ideas, but I need a different sized backing board, or I need a particular photo with my niece as model. I have other board I could do something else. Excuses I guess. My mum left some of her old pastels with me. I have been thinking about pulling those out. I’ve only ever done one pastel under my mother’s guidance but I am sure she could talk me through the process enough for me to get started.
How are you, Pauline? So far so good up your way?

I find pastels quite tricky, but love what can be done with them. Apart from scare in Brissie, GC seems ok. Went to shopping centre this morning and only counted 5 people with masks on 🤭😷.

People don’t seem to have much imagination, Pauline. Take care. Bring on your browns.
