While we were staying in an Airbnb at Rochdale in Brisbane we took the opportunity to visit the Queensland Art Gallery and immerse ourselves in the wide variety of art on display. We used the public transport as it was only a 20 minute ride to the CBD.
I was very impressed with the bus service, they had a dedicated bus lane and the buses flew along at 100kms stopping at stations along the way, much like a train.
At the gallery I was particularly interested in the aboriginal dot art and found it fascinating to study the intricate designs.
Look at the size of this canvas.
And it is covered in dots. At my weekly art group we have been studying and attempting to produce our own versions of dot art. I now have an admiration for this style and the time and concentration it takes. This is my art, only small 20cm x 25cm, no where near as many dots, but it took quite a lot of concentration.
We spent almost the whole day wandering around looking at all the different types of art. Not only paintings but also sculpture. I found this sculpture fascinating, look at all the intricate objects embedded on to the horse.
Then I spotted one of my all time favourites.
The jacaranda just glows and sings of summer, and dominates the scene of a time gone by when life was so much slower. But we were ready for a sit down and a cuppa, so headed for the cafe.
Refreshed and refueled time to look at more art.
I have to admit that I am not a fan of modern and abstract art it is this beautiful classical oil painting that I would hang on my walls, it really glows, I feel I could reach in and help myself to one of those grapes…
By contrast this just overwhelms me. Then in the final gallery we find a display of intricate, small objects.
Here’s another kookaburra with Jack like a ghost peering in at it…
This is only a very small selection of the hundreds of art on display. If you would like to see more follow this link telling you about all the different displays on show. Now back to our home of the moment after a satisfying day out. Tomorrow we go home and on to the sons place to look after the cats for 2 weeks.
The jacaranda is my favourite too. I always go to see it when we’re there. And yes, the busway system in Brisbane is amazing. So easy to get around.

Iāve usually put off going into Brisbane by car, the traffic and parking puts me off. But now I think I will drive to the outer stations and use the buses, especially as we have the seniors free passes. Cheaper than the train.

We don’t drive in the city unless we absolutely have to.

We always use the train. Just heard on the news all fares are going to be reduced to 50cents in July, no matter how far you travel šššš

Wow! Is that a senior’s price?

I adore jacaranda trees! Always remind me of South Africa as the first trees I ever saw were north of Johannesburg on the way to Pretoria and were stunning. Sydney has some great ones too. Your dotty kookaburra is excellent Pauline. You and Jack are so talented, I am glad that you are both getting out so much and this gallery looks very interesting. If I ever get to Brisbane…

The still life old painting just glowed! What they did with light and shadow back then is amazing.
I loved that Jacaranda tree painting too.
It looks like it was a great day out.
