As I sit on my back deck and evening falls in a soft shimmer of gold I notice this lone kookaburra ascending to the highest point he can find, to survey his kingdom.

Lord of all he surveys 🙂 🙂

Have you ever seen a picture of the highest point in Kansas? It is tourist destination. . . a rather flat and uninteresting tourist destination. I SO want to go there.

A familiar sight, albeit a crow/starling/fieldfare/chaffinch instead of that kookaburra.

Kookaburras at sunset are fine. It’s kookaburras at dawn, waking me up early on my weekends, that are not fine. 🙂
They’re so distinctive in outline and voice.

Oh yes that raucous, cackling chorus. We have a small nature park at the end of the street, do I need to say more!!! Happy Christmas to you LD

You would not have kookaburra in your place Gilly, but they are common over here
