I found this rather stirring and emotional (for me) video on You Tube, extoling the beauty and virtues of the Gold Coast and the Commonwealth Games.
The opening ceremony is now in the past, it was vibrant and colourful . Aboriginal culture played a large part in it. We are being encouraged to use “Jingeri” to greet people. The Aboriginal version of “G’day”. Then beach culture took centre stage with song and dance and the iconic great white whale, Migaloo, who swims past our coast line twice a year, making a majestic appearance.
What is more iconic to our lifestyle than the Combie Van and it transported the Queens Baton into the stadium, for Prince Charles to read the Queens message and declare the games open.
Now the competitions have started and on the first day the Australian cyclists, in the team pursuit event, won the first gold medal for Australia.
I managed to get this shot from the TV and it made me think of this weeks WP photo challenge “smile”
I saw that wonderful smile too. 🙂 🙂

We also saw the protests going on outside the stadium – “NOT Queen’s Land” and “Stolen Wealth” banners. It seems that for many using Jingeri may not be quite enough. Are you going to any of the events PP?

The protests are very Sad I think just a noisy minority. Now Pauline Hansen has forged into the controversy. No not going to any events Jude watching on tv

He is a very rare white wale that comes through our waters. He is always the highlight of the whale watching season and he is reported on the media when he is spotted in the area and then, of course, there is a big increase of whale watchers going out looking for him. Good for tourism….
